WHY WE LOVE MENTORING (and you should too)
We can go on and on about mentoring. You really cannot blame us; it is because we love it so much. By the time you are done reading this, we hope you will have fallen in love with mentoring just as much as we have.
Mentoring is a win-win situation; everybody wins, both mentors and mentees alike. There are benefits to be enjoyed by both parties; they both want development and growth.
Mentoring is a time-saver. We do not have a blueprint, but we have mentors. Those who have gone ahead can help us circumvent avoidable mistakes. You receive practical advice, encouragement, and support in a mentoring relationship.
Mentorship is as much about giving as it is about receiving. While sharing a wealth of knowledge and relevant experience, the mentor will become a better leader and see things in a different and better light.
“It is sometimes easier to help others rather than helping yourself. The trick is to listen to your “self” as a friend. This may be the easiest change you ever make in life with the biggest impact.”
-Lorii Myers
Mentoring would also help you as a mentor, develop your interpersonal skills, and help you gain recognition for your ability and expertise. Are we forgetting the fulfillment and satisfaction that comes with helping someone else?
Jesus Christ mentored 12 men, who went on and became huge successes. It would be notable if every leader took a person(s) under their wings as Jesus did. If there is a perfect way for a society or organization to secure its future, it is by mentoring the next generation. That way, there is an assurance that they would not derail because you have ingrained them with your values and tenets.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not turn from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
Have I mentioned accountability? A lot of businesses fail because of unaccountability. This is a problem that mentoring helps to eradicate. Knowing you are accountable to someone, especially if you would not like to disappoint, can push you to succeed.
A mentor is usually someone more successful in your field or who wants to be mentored. It could be a great source of inspiration. Imagine Jeff Bezos being your mentor, by seeing the success that he has become will most likely jeer and encourage you to become a success like him.
Mentoring has been here for a while. We love sturdy, long-lasting institutions; mentoring is one of such. It has been helping lives for years and still is. It is not something that would go with the wind or wash away with the tide. We can trust it.
