THE ELI AND PHILIP EFFECT 1
Man 1: Good morning class, I have a story to share with you today. It is the story of Eli and Samuel, Samuel had been living with his mentor Eli, but Samuel was so dependent on Eli, that even after many years of living with the ark, he still could not recognize the voice of God. After realizing this, Eli then showed him to recognize the voice of God and respond to it. It is our duty as mentor to help our mentees make decisions on their own, to be independent, after all we are raising the next generation of mentors and leaders.
HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL MENTORING: RAISING A TOTAL MAN
Man 1: Good day Tunde, how are you?
Man 2: Good day sir. I’m fine thank you.
Man 1: As you know this will be our last mentoring session, in the past 1 year you have grown and bloomed. Your growth was all rounded- physically, professionally, spiritually and emotionally. You have become a total man.
Man 2: Thank you so much sir, for the opportunity to learn from you. When I started I was expecting just professional development, but now I’m a much better person.
ACCOUNTABILITY IN MENTORING
Man 1: Fredrick, as I was going through our report for the past month, I noticed there are some tasks you have not completed.
Man 2: Yes sir, I am yet to complete them.
Man 1: So why did you not tell me, don’t you know you are to be accountable to me?
Man 2: I’m sorry sir, I did not know this. But why do I need to be accountable to you?
Man 1: That is the only way progress can be measured, it is the test of the knowledge imparted. And knowing you are accountable to someone, will motivate you to put more effort into what you are doing.
